Chingiz Abassov

Born in Baku, Azerbaijan into a family of university teachers on May 3, 1963, Chingiz Abassov showed interest in drawing and painting from his early childhood. At the age of six he attended drawing and painting classes at the Palace for Youth in Baku.
Chingiz's formal education includes studying at the Azerbaijan State Art College Azim-zade in Baku and at the Academy of Art and Design in the Department of Monumental Art, workshop of Professor Oleg Kuznetzov in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since his graduation in 1989 he has worked at the Baku state art plant, working mostly on government commissioned mosaics and murals, and participating in national youth art exhibitions. During this period he also worked as an illustrator for several books for the state publishing house.
From the early 1990's the artist started his international career by exhibiting his art extensively in Europe and the USA, which has continued for nearly two decades. He also holds summer workshops in Finland, teaching drawing, painting, and composition. Chingiz Abassov is the author of numerous private and public commissions. The artist's works are in many private and public collections throughout world. Currently he works and divides his time between Azerbaijan, the USA, and Finland.
