in vitro testing

Histola Research offers OECD validated and scientifically validated in vitro tests (regulatory accepted tests), non-regulatory tests, and customized tests

We perform our tests in compliance with GLP regulations.

Our service includes but is not restricted to:

  • In vitro skin corrosion test (OECD 431)

A validated in vitro reconstituted 3D human normal skin model is used to test the effect of the test item on normal human skin. The test material is applied topically to the model tissue. A possibly corrosive substance or material is identified by its ability to produce an irreversible decrease in cell viability. Viability is measured by methyl thiazolium (MTT) assay. The principle of the test is based on the hypothesis that chemicals are able to penetrate the stratum corneum by diffusion or erosion, and are cytotoxic  to the underlying cell layers. The test is compliant with OECD TG 431.

  • In vitro skin irritation test (OECD 439)

The test consists of a topical exposure of the test item to a reconstructed human epiderm model followed by a cell viability test (MTT test). The reduction of viability of tissues exposed to the test item in comparison to a negative control is used to predict skin irritation potential.  The test is compliant with OECD TG 439.

  • In vitro human ocular irritation test

A reconstituted human corneal tissue model is used to test the irritation potential of a test item. The reduction of viability of tissues exposed to the test item in comparison to a negative control is measured using an MTT assay. Based on the requests of clients and the properties of test items, different test protocols can be applied.

  • Cytotoxicity test

With several cell lines covering various end points, e.g. respiratory chain activity (MTT/WST-1), energy balance (cellular ATP), membrane integrity (LDH), lysosomal activity (NR), and total protein synthesis (SRB).

  • Dermal photoxicity test

We assist our clients in developing test strategies to meet their specific needs.
